Extended postpartum

Our extended postpartum bundle provides you with vital care while navigating the postpartum period.

My passion for doing birth work began when I was just a high school student preparing for college. I always knew that birth work was my calling, but I was unsure of the steps it would take to get me
there. Since then I have worked in child development and education as a teacher, program director, family support coordinator and college advisor. For over 25 years, my experience working with children and their families prepared me to understand their unique needs, while bringing calmness and focus to the entire family during challenging times. Since completing my training with Cornerstone Doula Trainings, I have been supporting mama’s and papa’s as a Birth Doula. In addition to my training, I am a mother and a grandmother which has provided me with personal experience in childbirth and infant and toddler care.

I love, love, love being a Doula. I love attending births. I love providing support so that the mom, partner and family feel safe and calm during one of the most important experiences of their lives; the birth of their child. I love making a difference in the lives of other people.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is one benefit of having doula support?

Studies have documented the benefits of having a doula prelabor. A recent Cochrane Review, Continuous Support for Women During Childbirth, showed with the support of a doula, women were less likely to have pain-relief medications administered and less likely to have a cesarean birth. Women also reported having a more positive childbirth experience.

In addition studies have also shown that having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin (pitocin) by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%.

What does a doula not do?

Make medical decisions for you or your partner. A doula does educate you and your partner about labor and delivery.
Deliver your baby. A doula will encourage and support you and your partner through labor and delivery by suggesting body positions and breathing techniques to aid in stimulating labor and manage pain during labor.

What’s our “why”?

We are reminded of our own experiences, the experiences of our loved-ones, our peers and our ancestors therefore we continue to do their work to restore our community through education and information.
